Language Explorers arrives in Carrickmacross Library
To celebrate European Day of Languages, Mother Tongues is bringing Language Explorers to Carrickmacross Library on September 26th! This year’s theme is “Languages Unite: How Languages Shape Inclusion”, and we couldn’t think of a better way to mark the occasion than with our Language Explorers workshop.
Join artist Kata Varnyu for a playful multilingual storytelling and creative workshop to celebrate the European Day of Languages.
Using puppetry, kamishibai-style visual storytelling and movement, families will be invited on a magical journey inspired by the traditional Hungarian folk tale “The Little Rooster and the Golden Coin“. Along the way, we will explore sounds, words and playful phrases from the story, including Hungarian words. Families will be invited to share words from the languages they speak at home.
This workshop creates a welcoming space where children can hear, say and enjoy different languages through story, play and creativity.
The session will finish with an arts activity where families can create together and take home their own story-inspired artwork. Come and join us to explore, create, connect and celebrate!
Workshops are free of charge, but booking is required as there is limited capacity.

Mother Tongues’ Language Explorer workshops provide a unique creative experience for parents and their children based on storytelling, play, visual arts and music. While the workshops will be guided in English, we encourage families to embrace their home languages. This fosters meaningful connections between parents and children, creating a truly inclusive environment. Meet and connect with other like-minded families and share your language journey!
Workshops are free of charge, but booking is required.
Please remember that children must be under the supervision of an accompanying adult throughout the workshops.
Activities have been specifically designed for children aged 3 to 6. However, if you have an older child who wishes to participate, they are more than welcome (please book a place for them too). For children younger than 2.5 years, the activities might be too complex, but they are also welcome to accompany their older siblings. No need to reserve a spot for younger accompanying children.
