Deutsch in Dublin
Deutsch in Dublin started in 2011 with one German for Juniors class (10 children) under the umbrella of ‘Language Safari’ in Rathmines. After a brief stint in the German Language Centre in Blackrock, Deutsch in Dublin’s classes became independent and were taught in Mount Merrion, Castleknock, Swords and Raheny. The Mount Merrion classes and their 50+ students were successfully transferred to the Goethe Institute in September 2018. Katrin Markham, who is running Deutsch in Dublin, is now teaching 85 children across three locations on Dublin’s Northside (Raheny, Castleknock and Swords).
Deutsch in Dublin is successfully run by German teacher, linguist and translator Katrin Markham who holds a degree in Translation for English and Italian from Humboldt University in Berlin/Germany. Katrin qualified with the Goethe Institute in Munich/Germany in 2011, where she studied ‘German as a Foreign Language’ and ‘German in pre-primary and primary school education’. Katrin focuses on teaching German to 3 – 12-year-olds. In conjunction with Swords Educate Together National School, Katrin has been running a programme for 2nd classes to introduce German as a foreign language early on.
