Mother Tongues is Ireland’s leading non-profit organisation dedicated to celebrating and promoting linguistic diversity and bilingualism through the arts. We are seeking a creative, proactive, and target-driven Communications and Marketing Consultant to join our team on a part-time basis.

Celebrating Ireland’s cultural and linguistic diversity, the Mother Tongues Festival’s mission is to curate a high-quality, multilingual arts programme that brings children, families, and artists together to share stories and cultures. Positioned as a social catalyst, the festival fosters intercultural exchange, strengthens community ties, and nurtures a powerful sense of belonging.

With inclusivity at its core, MTFest showcases the work of migrant and multilingual artists, with the majority of its multidisciplinary programme presented in languages other than English. 

Role purpose

This role is critical in driving registrations, ticket sales and brand awareness for our flagship annual Mother Tongues Festival, which, in February 2027, will celebrate its 10th anniversary. The  Consultant will be responsible for designing and executing a cohesive digital communications and promotional strategy to grow our Festival audience, maximise ticket sales and engagement for the Mother Tongues Festival 2027, under the supervision of the Festival Manager.

Role Title: Freelance Communications and Marketing Consultant
Basis: Part-time, Contract-for-Service (Freelance Retainer)
Term: October 2026 to March 2027

Allocation: The total fee for this contract is €6,000 (inclusive of VAT, if applicable), calculated at an estimated average of 7.5 hours per week over a 26-week period. Due to the nature of festival delivery, these hours will not be distributed evenly. The contractor must be flexible, as the workload will fluctuate, with a lower intensity during the initial planning months (October–December) and a significantly increased intensity and time commitment in the immediate lead-up to and during the Festival itself (February 2027). The distribution of hours will be agreed upon mutually at the start of the contract.

Indicative timeline:
  • October – December | Strategy Phase
    • Focus: Strategy, press release drafting, asset gathering.
  • January | Building Momentum
    • Focus: Programme launch, social media scheduling, early ticket sales/marketing campaigns.
  • February (4 weeks) | Peak Festival Lead-Up & Delivery
    • Focus: Heavy promotion, daily content, press chasing, on-site live capture (Feb 19–20).
  • March | Wrap-Up & Reporting
    • Focus: Post-festival reporting, blog post writing and dissemination, analytics compilation, archiving, final press clippings.
Total Estimated Hours: ~200 hours
Location: Hybrid. This role requires the successful candidate to be based in County Dublin or one of the surrounding counties. It’s essential for the Consultant to be attending the Festival events in the week leading up to the Festival weekend. 
The Consultant will have the option to work from the Mother Tongues office, which is located in the Rua Red Arts Centre in Tallaght.
Fee: € 6,000 (incl. VAT, if applicable) subject to final funding confirmation in September 2026.

Key Deliverables & Responsibilities

  • Festival Marketing & Coverage: Develop and implement a comprehensive festival campaign to drive ticket sales. Provide live, on-the-ground social media coverage during the festival weekend (19-20 February 2027) to boost real-time attendance and engagement.
  • Consolidate existing festival audiences and raise the profile of the festival
  • Target new audiences, regionally and locally
  • Targeted Email Marketing: Plan, write, and dispatch high-converting email campaigns and newsletters using Mailchimp to drive ticket bookings and brand awareness.
  • Media Coverage: Liaise with our PR to ensure media coverage.

Essential Requirements

  • Location: Must be living in County Dublin or surrounding areas with the ability to easily travel to Festival venues in Tallaght.
  • Social Media & Digital Marketing Experience: Proven professional experience managing, growing, and running campaigns for business/organisation accounts on Instagram and Facebook, with an eye for modern digital design and conversion trends.
  • Email Marketing & CRM: Proficiency in Mailchimp (email campaign building, automation, and basic performance tracking).
  • Equipment & Setup: Must have their own workspace setup, laptop, and reliable mobile device/smartphone for capturing content.
  • Status: Must be registered as a sole trader/limited company in Ireland and be responsible for their own tax compliance.

Desirable Skills

  • Linguistic Diversity & Arts Interest: A personal or professional passion for multilingualism, language preservation, or multicultural community arts.
  • Familiarity with Tallaght: an understanding of the local community dynamics and cultural landscape of the area in which the Festival takes place is a plus.
