Lots of great news for Mother Tongues!

Dear all,
We are approaching the start of our Summer holidays, and the Dublin heatwave has definitely given me great energy!
The Mother Tongues team will be working “behind the scenes” to offer a rich programme of activities for families and for schools, but before “leaving” you for a couple of months we will give you a quick update on what’s coming in the Autumn.
We have just received the great news that our schools programme Language Explorers has been selected for the European Award for Languages, and we will take part in an award ceremony in Croke Park in September.
We are also going to celebrate the European Day of Languages in September with a week of events at the LexIcon Library in Dún  Laoghaire, which will include a talk for parents, two school visits and a fantastic multilingual storytelling morning for under 5’s.
Please also save the date for the first Conference on Heritage Language Education, which will take place on 3rd November in the Wood Quay Venue, Dublin City Council. We are on the lookout for sponsors, so please let us know if you have any suggestions.
For those who love languages, our family programme Language Explorers will start on 8th September in Dolphins Barn library, Dublin 8. We are looking for language ambassadors (children and adults!). More information will be circulated closer to the date.
Our Festivals  are also being prepared behind the scenes. We have received funding from Galway2020 and from the Arts Council to run two festivals in 2019, one in Dublin and one in Galway. If you would like to contribute to the festival, we are still accepting submissions.
If you believe in the work we do, please consider contributing to the development of our activities in 2018/2019. Our friend Orla has kindly organsed a fundraising campaign. She will be running miles and miles this weekend and hopefully will raise the funding we need to support our programmes!
I wish you all a great Summer, and I look forward to seeing many of you in September!
